Lapping waves on the Rogue River
Seeking Beauty
Where do you seek beauty? Having just returned from a vacation where God’s creation is showcased, I can’t help but see His Beauty everywhere.
My family got soaked on a thrilling jet boat ride, then rocked in softly lapping water watching eagles, osprey, otters, and other wild critters. We played on the ocean beach and saw whales spouting and sea lions lazing. We raced along sand dunes while being pelted with spraying sand—and loved it. We shopped in quaint beachside shops.
God creates. And He created us to create—painters, sculptors, writers, and all manner of creators making amazing things. When we create, as we saw in all the shops we browsed, we are living in and expressing His image in us.

Redwood Cathedral
Looking Up
As I looked up into the Redwood trees, I was overwhelmed. Most of those trees have stood sentinel for centuries. Yes, in the same spot. For centuries. Is that not amazing?
As marvelous as the ancient trees are, I am guessing that God sees us, short-lived and transient people, as more amazing. Creative ideas come from beautiful minds that listen to their hearts. Where God resides.
Somehow, looking into the tree cathedral above me, worship wasn’t far away. Like each tree lined up together, I thought that we can be always be lining up the beautiful and the grand things in our minds.
A mind creative
A mind gracious to others
A mind and heart enduring great pain; then producing beautiful poetry
A mind, quiet, settled, watching butterflies and eagles on a sunny day
A mind full of Scripture
A mind listening to God
A mind created in the Image of God
“He makes everything beautiful in His time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end” (Ecclesiastes 3:11).
Road Trips
It finally gets driven home to my very ordinary mind that it is God who creates in us a beautiful mind, He develops His own in us. What can be more beautiful?
God guides us on our road trips every time.
“The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein. For He has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters” (Psalm 24:1-2).
“Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart” (Psalm 24:3-4a).
