A Dark Scuffle
I don’t know how it happened. But the result is that I was wrestling against an unseen but definitely felt entity in the dark. I heard maniacal cackling passing for laughter. Then something stabbed my side and I felt the punch going inward.
The cackler yelled, “I got you! You are mine!”
In turn, I yelled “Jesus, Jesus” over and over until, in my terrified state, I woke up.
It took a minute for my heart to slow down and I turned over to look at the digital clock. 2 AM.
Rescue and Rest
Where had this nightmare come from? I had not watched a scary movie lately or even read a scary book. It seemed to be a random nightmare. I got up to dispel the lingering fear, then returned to bed.
I thanked Jesus out loud for rescuing me and simply asked Him to put His angels around my house, my kitties, and my person. I fell back to a peaceful sleep for the rest of the night.
It’s Real
Spiritual Warfare.
It’s real.
It’s not only about full-out battles, but it includes small skirmishes all around us at any time.
The next morning, as I reflected on the night’s goings-on, I was grateful that I was able to call out Jesus’ Name for help. He was there. Instantly. Waiting for my call. He is faithful. All the time.
We don’t even have to engage in nefarious activities to be attacked. We are targets simply because we live on this earth.
But we don’t have to wrangle with the enemy’s planned clashes against us. We have all the power of heaven on our side. Even in the dark and lonely hours of the night when we may be at our most vulnerable to the enemy’s attack.
True Power
I learned something through this experience. The enemy really has no power. Just big teeth and a loud cackle. He certainly works hard to get in his licks at us.
I called on the Name of Jesus and expected that He heard me and acted on my pleas. I felt trust in Him seep into my soul and I went back to sleep.
God is faithful. All the time. When we call on the Name of Jesus, we call on the power of heaven for defense and we get it. Just like Elisha, the prophet, prayed in the Old Testament that his servant’s eyes would be opened to see the mounted, armed heavenly angel soldiers all around the city. We don’t see the angel soldiers, but they stand ready to fight for us.
Just call.
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV).
“I will lift up my eyes to the hills – from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121 1-2 NKJV).
“He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper” (Psalm 121:3,4,5 NKJV).
