“Take careful aim, bend your elbow slightly, use your jawline as an anchor point and let your arm pull slowly…slowly…and let it go!” The arrow arcs its way to the target—close, but not yet.
“Do it again.” The next one hits, but just short of the bullseye.
How have you trained lately for war?
While on the run, David and his men had to find places of safety. While constantly looking over their shoulders, they set up their targets and practiced for the precision of hitting the enemy; making every arrow count. Their lives depended on it.
Do ours? How about each day as we are constantly on the run—are we watching over our shoulders gauging where the enemy may be in pursuit of us? Have we spent time consistently with the Trainer before entering the battlefield? Listening for His instructions, learning the battle strategy, accepting from His hand the shield of salvation so that we are protected. If we have prepared with our Trainer, then we are ready to engage and the victory is ours! He upholds us.
“Do it again.” Yes! This last arrow hits square on! Right in the middle!
“He teaches my hands to make war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze” Psalm 18:34.
“You have also given me the Shield of Salvation; your right hand has held me up, your gentleness has made me great” Psalm 18:35.
