Racing towards death.
Do we ever think our day will start this way? We get up, we get ready for work, do chores, eat breakfast and race out of the house to hastily merge with traffic in order to get to the office on time.
I heard in the news last week about a man who died while riding his motorcycle. It was early morning, and my guess is that he was on his way to work. He seemed to be in a hurry and he took some chances. Fatal chances that cost him his life.
Last year, during the snow and ice season, a woman headed into town in the early morning rush hour and met her end in a car accident.
I don’t know about you, but it certainly made me pause to think. Must we be in such a race every day? Who knows if this will be it? I don’t want my last day to be an impression of things whizzing by me and then—blank.
The truth is that things on earth ARE going to end one day. We will either die, or the earth will come to its end. I’m asking God to help me to slow down, I can’t do it on my own. What is important in my life? How about yours?
“The Lord is faithful to all His promises and loving toward all He has made. The Lord upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down” Psalm 145: 13b,14.
