Night Driving
I don’t like night driving.
My Mom, sister and I were on the way home from a fun Thanksgiving Day of feast and fun. The day went fast, and I was driving us home.
In the dark.
Thank you, Lord, for a lovely day. Your grace has blessed us.
“I love you, O Lord, my strength” (Psalm 18:1 NIV).
Out of Nowhere
We chatted about the dominoes game we’d just spent hours playing at my hostess sister’s house. Who won, how the numbers fell and how good was the turkey dinner.
I stopped at a red light. Did I mention it was dark?
The light turned green. I put my car in motion. Suddenly an older car streaked across in front of my headlights. No lights on that car. But that car sure was in a hurry to get through the intersection.
I barely had time to slam on my breaks. We didn’t even have time to scream.
Halfway down the street to my right, where that car was still racing, my Mom commented that his lights just came on.
What? Thank you, Lord, for sparing our lives just now.
“The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I am saved from my enemies” (Psalm 18:32-3 NIV).
Call on God
We don’t know when our time on earth is over. Celebrating holidays, dancing through summer, sledding through winter, our time comes at any moment. It’s usually not convenient.
But, until then, God rescues us from danger over and over. I really do now believe that He hears us before we call. Because I surely would have cried out if I had known the threat we faced on Thanksgiving night. I would have begged and pleaded for His protection.
My car would have been totaled. Such are the thoughts we have at these times.
But my Lord and Savior knew my cry before I knew to utter it. He acted BEFORE I knew I needed Him to do so.
How many times has this happened to you? How has He arrived just in time for you?
Thank you, Lord, for hearing and acting on my unspoken cry.
“The cords of the grave coiled around me; the snares of death confronted me. In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From His temple He heard my voice; my cry came before Him, into His ears” (Psalm 18:5-6 NIV).

I am so glad you are safe! Thanking God as I type . . .
I too avoid night driving when I can.
Thank you for reminding me our all-knowing God is already in action before we know it!
