Princess Iris
Last night a friend and I had dinner out. Across from us was a group of teens all dressed up for the ball—er—the prom. One girl had a tiara in her hair, another’s dress was all sparkling when she moved, a third beauty had a mass of black curls and wore a white dress that set off her dark skin strikingly. The guys were all handsome in their tuxedos.
I remember prom. That was uh, well, a lot of years ago. I remember that as a rite of passage. Curls, satin and lace, slow dances under soft lights and finally the romantic fire on the beach in the middle of the night and all of us roasting smores.
I suppose, other than the dress-up fantasies, many things have changed about prom. But I hope those kids had a wonderful, innocent, fun night together that they can remember long into the future with fondness.
Princes and Princesses
We can all look forward to something MUCH better than prom! We are the sons and daughters of the King. He is, even now, fashioning a glorious place for celebration! He is formulating interesting and fascinating work for us to do that will delight us. And then the time will come when He will return for us and we will be dancing forever!
Get your fancy duds ready. Make those preparations as diligently as you ever did for prom. Only better—the King is coming!
It’s almost time! I’m straining to hear the Lord’s excited shout! I can ALMOST hear that accompanying trumpet! Can you?
“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God” II Thessalonians 4:16.

Lovely photo and a winsome reflection. I hadn’t made this connection before and am more likely to now, Linda Jo, whenever I see youth stepping into Cinderella shoes. Thank you!
I hadn’t either, but somehow seeing the one girl in the white dress just flashed it across my mind. Amazing how God just hits us with these ideas, isn’t it? I probably won’t see another prom couple again without thinking of our heavenly prom!
