Do you ever get silence from God when you pray? I suppose most of us do. Yet we are told that prayer is our communication avenue to God. Through prayer, healing happens, evil schemes are broken, prophecies are heard and much more.
Yet, sometimes it seems that nothing happens after all and Nobody seems to be “up there.”
Here’s a thought: what if silence is the most profound communication God does with us?
If that’s so, how are we to understand that? We live in a society that is full of noise of every kind. Assaults on our eyes and ears are constant and we rarely go to a place of silence. It even makes us uncomfortable to have “dead air.”
On the radio today, I heard John Kuessler say that God’s silence during our prayer with Him could be interpreted as deep listening.
Hold that thought. Deep Listening?
I can only guess. My picture is of a child on his/her knees, elbows propped on Abba Daddy’s lap, hands held together in a pose of prayer in front of his/her face. Abba Daddy is leaning over with His hand stroking the child’s head. Just listening. Hearing our heart. Hearing our words, yes, but mostly just listening to our heart.
How do you feel when you have been heard?
Maybe that’s how we should come away from a time of silent prayer.
Abba Daddy – You are so kind, gentle and loving in your dealings with us. Yet we are so quick to ascribe to You all manner of evil intent toward us. Forgive us for not listening to YOUR heart.
“The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles” Psalm 34:17.
