I am not a fan of winter. That’s no secret.
Because I live on a hill, my first fear on leaving the house every morning is that I won’t get the tires turned on my car and I will go down sideways. The hill turns into a skating rink. And yes, I do have 4 wheel drive AND studs. I need both. I may or may not struggle uphill to my mailbox for days.
I don’t like the cold, either. However, I must admit that this year has been rather easy. I guess I should cross my fingers or something as I write that, knowing that most of the nation is in a deep freeze. I am profoundly grateful we aren’t here.
Still, even with all the strikes against winter, I must admit it is beautiful to behold. New snow looks like magic however trite that sounds. And when the sun comes out, yes, you guessed it—snow sparkles. We had a very light snowfall over the weekend. The trees are still green, but they all wear a light dust of snow on their branches. It’s just enough to dress them up. I love looking out the window at them.
It’s also just enough to remind me that God knows what’s best. We moan about the icy roads (ok, I moan about icy roads). But because of ice and snow, we can grow vegetables and grass next summer, or play in our kayaks in the river, and enjoy our big bottles of water on hot days.
I will probably still moan about icy roads, but I am grateful to God who upholds our lives in everything.
“Oh Lord, how great are your works!” Psalm 92:5a
