Turkey Wandering
“Cluck, cluck.”
Yep, that’s what I hear daily. Turkeys don’t gobble, they cluck. Unless their clucks run together, then maybe that can be called a gobble.
About forty turkeys march back and forth and back and forth through my neighborhood all day long, every day. They go along mostly in single file. They waddle. They run (that looks funnier than snort!) and sometimes they fly. It’s really amazing to watch them fly. Somehow, they manage to get their bulky bodies in the air, and flap their large wings. It makes a whirring sound as they do this together, clucking all the time. I suppose most of us need to comment no matter what we are doing, too. Turkeys don’t soar, they do a short-term air sprint and plop back onto their feet. I am astounded that they don’t get hit by the whizzing cars.
It seems as if turkeys have no direction. On the ground, they go this way, then that way, but all the time keeping their single file formation, even if they walk a circle! Their footprints seem to bear this out. It doesn’t make sense to us. But God created them to do what they do and how they do it. He knows why they march back and forth.
People Wandering
What is our excuse as people? We aren’t made to go back and forth.
God has provided His Word to give us direction.
And yet, we do wander all over the place—yep—clucking our opinions, as well. 2020 certainly felt like going back and forth again and again. It kept us double-minded. How would we live? Masks on. Masks off. Business is a good. Business is shut down. We can socialize in restaurants. We can’t socialize in restaurants or anywhere else. We were more than happy to lift a boot and kick that 2020 year out the door!
The only thing is, that just turning a page on a calendar doesn’t mean that everything will change and go back to the way it was so we can be comfortable again.
Maybe there is some double-mindedness about what is to come in this new year of 2021. Will we need to prepare for continued tough times? Maybe we will have to waddle through some muck. Maybe we will run (could be a waddle-run), and other times we will spread our wings, however awkward that may be.
All the time, we have confidence that our God will make a way for us.
The Sonshine
The Sonshine is coming. We are not left without direction and hope.
We keep our eyes trained in front of us, on Jehovah-Nissi (God is my Banner). He leads the way, no matter what 2021 brings.
“I have inclined my heart to perform Your statutes forever, to the very end. I hate the double-minded, but I love Your law. You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your Word” (Psalm 119: 11
2-114 NKJV).
