I recently read that someone said a novel is like the universe was at the moment before the Big Bang. It startled me and stopped me in my tracks for a while. What did that mean?
Since I am a writer, this did catch my fancy. How did this person know what the moment before the Big Bang was like? Was he there? If he was, did he get a little addled being flung out into the vast expanse of the universe? I’m sure I would have felt quite shaken up if I were caught up in such an epic event.
And, then, did he somehow land here on earth to give us this sage wisdom? Of course, there would be his age to consider by now, too.
I would like to ask what it was like before the Big Bang. Was there nothingness? If there was nothingness, then his consciousness could not have been conscious. Huh? There could have been no stars yet to be guided by because the Big Bang had not yet flung them out there. No sun, so no light.
What would have caused an explosion from nothingness? I have always wondered about this. Something had to cause it, but there was nothing there. But, then, maybe this writer was about to write a novel so the Big Bang could happen. I think my head is spinning.
It takes more faith to believe in the Big Bang than I think I have. To me, it makes much more sense to believe in a God who existed and brought about a universe of order rather than chaos.
When I look at flowers and their intricate designs, or the graceful deer crossing my yard, or the beauty and variety of cats and dogs, how could this order come from chaos? Even the turkeys, leaving their trail in my yard, go in order. Eighteen of them when I counted them the other day. They wait their turn to go up the hill–in order.
So much for the Big Bang. I’ll keep putting my trust in God. He writes better true stories than any novel, anyway – just go read them!
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” Genesis 1:1. (Of course!)
