Lessons From the Tail Gater
Ever been tailgated? Did it agitate you?
Did you speed up your car to accommodate only to find they are still there? Did you slow down to a crawl to irritate them? If you were in a single traffic lane, did they go away? Or, of course, you were stuck with them on your bumper.
Letting Them Push
It’s not unreasonable to take your time. Not let the demands of others push you. Don’t complain, it will all work out.
Don’t keep pressing your foot on the accelerator. The car behind you will only goad you to go faster and faster as you apply the speed more and more.
Tailgating, crowding, pushing until you are weary. With no rest in sight, no rest stop to turn into. Just faster and faster until the road speeds by in a blur.
Filling the Rear View
The tailgater may fill your rearview mirror, but a crash is coming unless you slow down. Let the fiend behind you push. But you can slow down to a reasonable speed.
My mother-in-law used to say with a humph in her voice, “well, they can’t take the road with them.” I laughed. But its true. The road is open for everyone.
So ease up. It will be okay.
Watch the Signs
Watch and read the signs along the way. Learn all you can. When an alternate route appears, you won’t be going too fast to turn onto it without spinning out or smacking into something. No careening, just a turn.
The tailgater can whiz by you to find another car to push.
You will be safe.
Able to watch the signs. Slow down. Take curves calmly. Even stop to rest.
And your Abba Father will be there to greet you. Right in that safe place where He can hold you in safety.
