An Earthly Father
Recently, as I was driving, I saw a dad with his two small children riding bikes. They came to a side street. The dad put up his hand to stop his children and dismounted his own bike. He walked it out to the middle of the street, made a show of looking both ways, then motioned for his children to ride across the street. Once they reached the other side, he remounted his bike and followed them.
I suppose there are plenty of dads who do this, but it stood out to me.
I thought what a wonderful way to love, teach and protect his children.
Our Heavenly Father
Our Father in Heaven loves, teaches and protects us in such practical ways, like this earthly father that I observed.
He goes before us. He looks out for the dangers that surround us. He determines when it is safe for us to move forward. Then He goes behind us to protect us from the perils following us.
He gives us direction whenever we ask. His written instructions are available all the time. To help us with that forward movement. Or those difficult circumstances and the emotions that accompany them.
He invites us to sit with Him and quietly absorb His peace. We can hear the peace in the sighing of the breeze in the trees or the sounds of insects on a calm, sunny afternoon.
Or on a beach watching the life on the water, be it lake, river or ocean.
Or the hush of fresh fallen snow.
He shows His care for us.
