When Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, they found themselves confronted by a sea of water in front of them, and quaking due to the pursuit of Egyptian soldiers behind them. I would say this constituted a desperate circumstance. Certain destruction appeared to be imminent.
But – God stepped in.
Moses told the people, “don’t be afraid. Stand still and see what God will do for you today. You won’t be seeing those Egyptians ever again. Watch!”
God stepped in.
He did a major technicolor (just watch Charleton Heston as Moses in the movie “The Ten Commandments”) miracle. What must that have been like? Death staring you in the face no matter which way you turned, and suddenly—a way out! Unexpectedly so! And against all human imagination or possibility. God parted the sea and the whole Israelite nation walked through on dry ground yet! Not mud, but dry ground. Do you suppose they saw fish on either side like we would go to the undersea museums to see? I’ll bet they hurried through with jaws dropped and eyes popping.
God stepped in.
I struggle through my impossible circumstances trying to figure out ways and means. If I do this, then that will happen. If it doesn’t work, then maybe if I go over here or there and try something else, life will get smoother and I can breathe easier. Maybe the dread will go away for a while.
Then I hear in the back of my mind, “Stand still, Child. Just stand still and watch what I will do for you. Trust Me to act on your behalf. I will do it. You will see. Just stand still”.
God will step in for me. And for you.
“And Moses said to the people, ‘do not be afraid. Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. The Lord will fight for you and you shall hold your peace” Exodus14:13,14.
