My chore list is longer than ever and I feel a bit overwhelmed with it, but I am still on the theme of chores vs. living life.
When I stand before God when my earthly life is over, I don’t think He is going to ask me how much I got done during my time on the planet. No, first He will ask me what I did with Jesus. Do I know Jesus? How do I know Him? Do I know Him well enough to spend an eternity with Him? Did I do what He asked me to do? Did I believe in Him and the sacrifice He made on the Cross for me? Did I say yes?
Next, I think He will ask me what I did with the people He put in my life. Did I make time for them? Did I listen to them? How did I show I cared for them? Did any of my chore lists include doing things for people in my life?
As I weighed out those questions, I realized that my chore and to do lists came first. “Getting things done” hung over my life and crowded out the relationships that God placed there. So now what do I do with this?
One request I made of God early in 2010 was to have more time and relationship with my family. He is gracious. I realized just a few weeks ago how He has granted that request. I have been rediscovering the love and companionship of family and friends this year. I am truly thankful.
Thanksgiving is just passed and I had a houseful for dinner. It was unexpected, but wonderful. I have not served a Thanksgiving dinner in years. Several family members came and brought delicious offerings. What a joy!
Before that, my children and their families made several visits to me and I visited them over the course of the Summer and Fall seasons. More than any other year. What a blessing!
Then, over the year, two of my siblings and I spent some Saturdays together. We played. We put our canoes and kayaks in the Columbia River, in the lakes and enjoyed the wonderful outdoor treats our heavenly Father provided for us. What fun!
Refreshment comes in repenting from our sins and moving forward. Can this mean letting go of putting our chore lists in first place and seeking what God has for us instead?
“Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord” Acts 3:19.
