Vision
I wonder how much most of us are filled with the vision of God’s calling on our lives?
It seems that times and seasons change so often that the vision gets lost in the daily living.
I read in Oswald Chamber’s book, My Utmost For His Highest, that our reach must exceed our grasp. He said that this is the proof that we have the vision. It is always just outside our grasp and we are constantly reaching for it.
He also said that if we are truly devoted to God and not to a cause, we will be energized by God and inspiration can’t help but come.
Wow. This is a lot to ponder. As I go through my job, my activities, I think I often get caught up in causes. They are all good things and all part of doing work for God. Inspiration comes and goes along with the excitement of doing the thing. Then I find I am so busy that I can’t remember the cause—exactly. Or Who it was that set my feet upon the path.
So I conclude that running ahead of God is not the same as reaching for the vision of God.
If I ever grasp the vision and think that now I have arrived, I’ve got it under my belt, and I am satisfied—this could be the kiss of death. If I can do it, then I no longer need God or the vision He has for my life because I have my own plans to fulfill. I think this is where the red DANGER sign flashes.
Reach
At this point, I must come back and re-evaluate. Can I let go of my plans and instead, reach for the vision of God? And maybe the first part of every vision that God gives is that I seek Him first before anything else can be put before me. And because my love for Him rekindles and He is the One I want, then I let go of my plans to reach for His vision.
I think it was Corrie ten Boom who said she learned to hold all things loosely because it hurt so much when God pried her fingers off them. She was so right. How glad I am that He is the One orchestrating vision in my life. When I am brave enough to let go and reach for His vision for me, He steps right in and all is better than well in my world.
How about you?
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind,” Matt 22:37.

Oh that is a delightful quote from Corrie ten Boom. I will hold this one in mind often. Thanks for this post, full of wisdom, as always.
