Those who think God is too occupied running the Universe to care about what we might be doing in our everyday lives should think again. He is never too busy. Aside from the usual lists of dos and don’ts that we think must be performed to keep God happy (or are these to keep us happy?), hopefully we won’t miss what is really true.
What’s True
Sometimes, when we least expect it, God will bring us special treats: divine appointments as He did for me, today. Sometimes it will be a gift, a phone call, an unexpected financial reward, a flower poking out of the ground after the winter season, or any number of surprises.
Recently, my pastor talked about a triangle of relationships: To God, To each other, and To the community. It made me do some thinking. Jesus told us that all the Law and Prophets are wrapped up in Two Great Commandments: Love God, love your neighbor. How well do we do that? And, how does God work that out in our lives?
Today God gave me two divine appointments. You know, that is when you’ve met with someone and you know that it was meant to be? Neither of these chance conversations were earth shaking. I see these ladies every week. Neither came from afar off or across years. But God was in it.
First Appointment
In our Sunday service, there is opportunity to pray with one another. We had that opportunity to pray again today and I was very blessed. A friend, who often prays for a couple of my family members, asked me to pray for a situation in her family. I am honored that she trusts me with her loved ones and it was good to hear how God is operating to bring them through perseverance, character development, grace and on to hope. It is the same in my family. I think some of my family members are on that same path to hope because of her prayers.
Second Appointment
I don’t talk to this lady every week, but I admire her humor, her sense of style, her love for her family. We chatted, by chance in the hallway, and I invited her to the Scribettes, my writers group. Like all of us, in any walk of life, writers need support to keep going. My friend was excited to have this opportunity and I was very happy to have been the one to bring it to her.
In The Everyday
I realized afterwards, that both of these ladies are writers. Both have published books. I didn’t think of it at the time, but that was a double blessing for me, today.
As I thought of Pastor Rod’s words on the way home, it occurred to me that while I’m not sure what my ongoing scorecard is for community relationship, I am privileged with family and friendships. God is good, all the time.
Our heavenly Father cares about our everyday. I sometimes forget that in the busyness of living. Yet, though I may forget, He never forgets. I’m so grateful that I’m on His mind all the time.
Aren’t you grateful He thinks of you all the time?
“The Lord has been mindful of us; He will bless us” Psalm 115:12a.

I am grateful for that divine appointment we had at the Service Station a while back. I’m still walking in the gift of that conversation with you! Thanks for this post, such a great reminder.
