My Best Turtle Life
I try to do my house and property maintenance in the autumn every year. In August, I begin to line up the tasks and schedule the repair and fix-it guys to come to get me all set up for winter.
It is now November.
I am definitely living my best turtle life right now. When I called to get appointments set up this year, I found long waiting times. And then, invariably, “something came up” and I got put on the waiting list again.
Or they came, but had to order pieces to do the job. Yep, waiting again.
I hurried up. I did. I allowed for plenty of time. I did.
But here I am, waiting on several large appliances that are limping along, if working at all.
Best Gifts in Turtle Times
In the midst of things, events not working out as planned, the best surprises come. I may not have ice forming in the refrigerator ice maker, but this week, I received a lovely gift.
My friend, Diane, brought gifts to the Scribette writers. She made Mumkins. These lovely pumpkin shaped decorations are topped with silk chrysanthemum blossoms and leaves. The pumpkin bases are different colors. They are delightful. And each one is hand crafted by Diane.
In this frustrating, for me, season, it is her generosity in thinking of us that made the gifts so special.
In the midst of trying times, God prompts us to care for one another.
The best gifts.
Accepting the Best Life
I see “live your best life” just about everywhere, written, spoken, blazed across all media types. Since we only have so many choices before life overshadows us, I have often wondered what “living my best life” can really mean.
Clearly, the turtle life is not working for me. My ice maker is still empty.
But God sent a tangible gift from the hand of a caring friend that delighted me in spite of my lack of ice cubes. Maybe the best life are the things that God gives us, after all. Unexpected, or following a long wait.
He tells us that he has good plans for our good and that He will bring those plans about. And if God makes the plans, they are going to happen. Our best lives are the lives that God orchestrates.
He knows what is best, after all.
And His best can’t be topped.
