What joy! The sun and it’s warmth have finally arrived! And it’s lighter later. That can either mean more time to “get stuff done” or more time to enjoy the beautiful world God created.
I do think God loves it when we admire His handiwork. After all, once He finished creating it, He sat back with satisfaction and declared, “it is good!”
So, I sit here on my porch watching a hawk soar across the river valley and think how graceful he is. Then, a blue heron flies. In the distance, he looks like a wasp as he flies with his legs hanging down. When he perches in the tree, he becomes invisible. A watch bird. My binoculars tell me his nose is busy swiveling on his head. I wonder what he is looking for?
The sun slants in the late afternoon and backlights the lilacs in my garden. They are in bloom and in abundance. The fragrance is heavenly. I enjoy them all the more because this is the first year they have bloomed so bountifully and beautifully. I planted them 3 or 4 years ago, all the time anticipating this day.
It’s like when God works in the secret places of our lives, growing our roots. I’m sure He anticipates the results in us. We don’t look like much on the outside during that growth time. Like the lilacs, there might be a few leaves here and there, maybe lots of spindly branches. But in the dark, under the ground, life is busy building and growing into a floral bush.
Then comes the day when glory bursts forth—the lovely blossoms open and release their perfume. It’s carried on the air currents and enjoyed by all who come by.
It takes time for a saint to bloom. And God says, “it is good!”
“Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good.” Genesis 1:31.
