Follow Me
What comes to mind when you hear the words, “follow me”?
Follow the leader.
Follow the words.
Follow the rules.
Follow the lifestyle.
Alfred Bouter said that to follow Jesus is to be with Him. Learn from Him. Work with Him.
Shifting
These things are all true. But what if we shift our thinking just a bit?
It is fire season in this hemisphere.
What if following Jesus means to walk right behind Him, put our feet into His footsteps because He is going through the fire danger before us? He knows where it is safe to step and where it is calamitous to step. One wrong move and we burn up.
He meets the danger first. It hits Him before it hits us. He goes first and then we know where it is safe to step.
Home Safe
Recently my son, Jeff, and I did an obstacle course in the trees above the ground. With three skill courses, there seemed to be plenty of room for disaster.
Yet all the safety measures put in place kept us from falling to the ground far below.
Through every obstacle course, Jesus holds us. We follow behind Him because He is our Safety. Any danger hits Him before it touches us.
May we always follow Him closely, learning to love as He loves and letting our lives count for time and eternity.
