Distractions
The pine tree in my front yard has dropped boucou cones this year. A record, I think. I filled two yard bins full and have enough to gather for a third bin. Oye!
As I look at the pinecones, then pick them up one by one (yep, the yard rake doesn’t hold them long enough to deposit them into the bin), I can sigh because there are so many. But the sun is out and it’s a warm spring day, so I suppose that’s as a good a way as any to get a dose of Vitamin D.
While considering yard work, those pinecones look like a bunch of distractions. They take longer to vanquish, and they are in the way of getting any real work done.
Sound familiar?
On Track
As I pursue mini-retreats, I ran across a question posed by Ruth Haley Barton: “Am I fighting the right battle?”
That gave me pause. How about you?
There are plenty of battle fields, but daily, we only fight so many. What are those everyday distractions that keep us from the quiet moments to refresh our souls? That keep us from looking up to our heavenly Father to fill us as needed. Staying on track means to check in with the One who sees us and knows us better than we know ourselves.
I am in process.
Can you name your battles?
Choose Joy
At the river again, I felt a cool, comfortable breeze that accompanied the sound of the water rushing around rocks in its hurry to get to its destination. Tree branches gently swung, and the honks of the geese echoed down the canyon as they chased each other up and down the river.
Such moments have a way of sending the distractions down the river, too.
We can choose joy. Anytime. And refuse to let concerns stop us from doing what God has called us to do and enjoying it.
