Spilled
Anything spilled is out of order. It causes angst and extra work to clean it up. It shouldn’t be a natural event. The pull of gravity. It wins too often.
So, the juice went over. At least it was in the kitchen and not on the carpet, right? A mundane moment. I had to clean it up before it became a sticky mess. Something my foot would stick to. Know what I mean?
But I was in a hurry. I didn’t have time for this.
Patience
In the past, I would have yelled something not nice and grabbed the paper towels in a huff.
But this time, I just sighed as the liquid went over and cascaded to the floor. Can you see it in slow motion? Just like in the commercials.
No temper tantrum. Just a calm reach for the paper towels and the swiping commenced until the stickiness was cleaned up.
Holiness
As I scrubbed up the mess, I thought this is a moment of holiness.
What? No stained-glass windows or heavenly choirs humming in harmony? No, just a quiet everyday victory.
It surprised me.
Attitude
In the Bible, we are admonished to watch our attitudes. To bring them in line with the Spirit of God Who lives in us and desires to impart His own goodness to us.
Maybe I have learned something. Sometimes we don’t know we have grown until something happens and our response is radically different than it might have been in the past.
It’s a good thing. Rejoice when you notice it in yourself.
Have you had such a moment?
