Why are you avoiding Me?
These words, dropped into my head, cut me to the heart. The Voice was sad and hurt. Was I avoiding Jesus, my Lord and Savior? A quick examination showed me that my answer was yes.
In the last weeks, life overwhelmed me again. My coping mechanism slipped into place and it was not in going to the One who could do anything about it. Instead, I believed the lie that it takes too much time and energy to pray and maintain a relationship. Watching movies, reading books, doing any kind of mind numbing activity is the fleshly way to cope when life just doesn’t work.
Could it be that when I am angry, depressed, full of self, or tired—then I can’t recognize that refreshment must come from the One who understands all things?
“Come to Me, you who are heavy laden and I will give you rest,” He tells us in the Bible. He expounded as I set myself to listen, does this sound familiar, My child? Do you think I don’t know these dynamics? These emotions? I WAIT for you to come and bring me these things just so I can refresh and restore you. Come to Me, I AM ABLE.
This morning, the sermon was preached by Terry at my church. He spoke about the Holy Spirit. Wow! God does meet us where we are. He is able. Terry admonished us not to resist the Holy Spirit. Don’t fear Him. Get close because He is closer to us than our own breath. He feels our pain, our issues, our emotions even more finely, deeply and purely than we do ourselves. He is one with us as we come to Him.
He asks us to trust Him. He assures us we are not alone. He loves us and asks us to love Him. How can we not? He asks us to obey Him and makes the way clear for us to do so. He wants us to abide in Him; to live every day knowing He really does go with us wherever we go. He abides with us—He lives our lives with us.
Is this not true refreshment?
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest” Matthew 11:28.
