I guess I’ve done enough bellyaching about Winter coming on—er—fast.
However, the other morning, God gave me a beautiful gift as I looked out the window. On the frost tipped grass, two white tail does were curled up in my back yard. I wondered that they don’t get cold, but they looked perfectly comfortable. Every so often they lifted their heads to sniff the air and twitch their ears as cars whizzed by on their way to wherever.
Yet, these does were peaceful. They were doing exactly what God made them to do. And in that “being” state, they glorified Him. And I pondered.
These ladies were in no hurry to get to work, as I am sure most people in those cars were. The contrast struck at me. After all, I was in a hurry getting ready for work, too.
My mind kept returning to that scene over and over during the week. Resting, savoring the moment.
I reviewed my constant struggle with busyness and over commitment. There is nary a moment to spend in quietness and confidence, but that is what God calls me to do. He says I will find His strength in that quietness and confidence.
Yet, in the whirl of days and the activities I pack in to them, I think my value is justified and I feel important in the scheme of life on this earth. The busier the better; but at what consequences? Count them: I lose time with my family, I lose touch with dear friends, I lose direction, I lose appreciation for the wonders He puts around me.
Those does were kept by God. He provided for them and I’m sure they didn’t worry about it, even though it is autumn—and hunting season. They lay in my yard, contented.
What will it take for me and for you to slow down like those does and let God be our strength in His quietness and confidence? Then we trust Him for our direction and for the provision for our lives. We are valuable and important to Him. Just as we are.
“For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: In returning and rest you shall be saved; In quietness and confidence shall be your strength” Isaiah 30:15.
