Lately it seems that brokenness, sin, worthlessness abounds wherever I look. I know there was a time when I could not see God because I felt so unworthy.
Someone recently pointed out to me that there is a difference between Reality and Truth. Reality is what we see, feel, touch, taste, right here in this sinful world. It’s falling down around our ears and our eyes behold horrors all over the world through the newscasts. We worry about the survival of our nation, our way of life. Sometimes we don’t have to go any further than our own skin to see Reality.
Truth, on the other hand, comes from God. It is always Truth in spite of Reality. Unseen, yet it consistently overcomes the Reality that is tied to earth.
As a human being, I can choose to run from God’s Truth and chase after my idols, my ideas and my wants, or I can allow God to take that which is broken and worthless in my world and turn it into something beautiful and priceless instead.
As part of that which is the human condition; we are born into sin. We stomp our feet, echo angry words and insist on our way. But we also have the capacity to cry out to God and then He empowers us to love Truth and follow it in obedience. And if we are obedient, the door opens to us for his blessings.
It takes courage to believe what we can’t see. In the strength given to us by Jesus, through our believing, we can overcome Reality and live in Truth. No matter what the conditions are around us.
We will NEVER be worthy. Just forgiven and loved.
“But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor. Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work” II Timothy 2:20,21.
