Sometimes we get a glimpse of something precious. Even rare.
River Connection
I love to wander along the river. I do it often, in all seasons. I’ve noticed that many of us have a fascination for our rivers and lakes in the Pacific Northwest. We have beautiful waterways.
Maybe the water calls to us because there is a River of Life that flows from the Throne of God. Perhaps miracles are brought by water. Or maybe we need water to live.
We find healing. We see beauty. Some of us fish. Some of us skim across the tops of rivers and lakes. Or we swim. Or a myriad of other things to do with water.
The Voice Above the Water
I read recently the account of Jesus’ baptism in the Gospel of Matthew. As Jesus obediently dipped under the water and rose again, a dove perched on Him and the Voice of God spoke above Him. Jesus had been on the earth for thirty years. Did He miss heaven?
I never thought before about how deeply Jesus, in His earthly body, must have felt the Voice of His Father.
All the way down to His toes, reverberating in His heart and flooding His soul.
This beautiful love between them.
Everlasting Love
I can hardly imagine witnessing such a thing. Was it painfully beautiful? Did anyone speak, or even move? How does one witness such oneness of love and then go about their day?
That event moved forward the process of our redemption as Father God and Holy Spirit affirmed the Son in this joint venture begun before time.
Unity in love for us.
Amazing.
“When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, ‘This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased’” (Matthew 3:16-17 NKJV).

This is beautiful, Linda Jo. It goes right to my heart, coaxing forth the wellspring already indwelling . . . but half-swamped with to-dos, at present.
Thanks for this reminder. The shared exhale, in wonder.
