Are we saved from sin for personal holiness? This was the question posed by my favorite mentor, Oswald Chambers, this week. I pondered on this. Isn’t this what most of us think about when we consider salvation?
We are born in the dark. That inevitably comes first. It’s painful, no doubt about it. Life’s trials hurt us. But then, salvation comes. And a song flows through my mind. Peggy Lee singing, “Is that all there is, my friend? Then let’s keep dancing. Let’s roll up the floor…if that’s all…”
Maybe we have an entirely wrong perception of “Is that all there is?”

Maybe we are saved for an entirely different purpose. Maybe we are saved in order to spend eternity with God in His glory?
I saw the sun come up through my front yard and it spoke to me of what we are saved for. The slight fog diffused the glory of the rising sun, and in it, I saw the promise of heaven. Think of it – brighter colors than we’ve ever seen, golden glows reaching into our innermost beings. The intimacy of being fully known and not needing to hide any shame.
Think of joy, peace, love, strength and beauty being a part of our very selves—because we are a part of Who God is. While on earth, Jesus prayed that we would be one with Him and His Father as they are one together. Think of seeing one another in this very glow!
That’s what we are saved for.
That’s all there is. Forever.
“I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that you sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me, that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me” John 17:19-23.
