I recently read some stories from “Extraordinary Miracles in the Lives of Ordinary People” by my friend, Therese Marszalek. As I read some of the wonderful ways God intervened in the lives of just plain folks –even some folks that I know—I began to think about how God has done miracles in my own life.
As I contemplated traveling long distance to see my brand new grandson over winter roads, I thought about how He has protected me while driving. There have been some close calls on the highways, but nothing comes as close as the near accident right in town on Francis Avenue.
I was sitting at a red light. When it turned green I started across the intersection. I suppose I was thinking or something, but I didn’t look before starting out. The light is green—I go.
Suddenly there was a terrible screeching of brakes and even some smoke, or steam, or something. A car slammed to a stop so close to my door that I could reach out my car window and touch the front of it. It all happened so fast that there just wasn’t time to think. I saw the lady driving the other car throw her arms across her steering wheel and put her head down.
I don’t think I realized my own deliverance from sudden death until that moment. Before reaction set in, I knew God had sent an angel to stand between my car and the lady’s car and we have both lived on earth a while longer.
It must be true: what I heard a Bible teacher once say, “We are immortal until the appointed time comes.”
“He shall cover you with His feathers and under His wings you shall take refuge” Psalm 91:4a
