The cold rains have come. I’m grateful it is not yet snow. I’m not ready to slip ‘n slide.
Just a few days ago, I wrote to a friend to say, “we still have some sunshine, but it’s getting colder by the day. The last two mornings there frost covered the lawn. Brrrr. Just last week we were wearing capris and light tops and now here we are in sweaters again. However, the upside is the beauty all around. I wonder why it has to get so beautiful, just to disappear into dark, cold and snow? Ok, I am and will be enjoying the wonderful, beautiful colors of Autumn”.
But, days after I wrote that, the winds and rains began and the sun now lives above the clouds.
Winter preparation boggles my mind. So many chores and details to get done. The flowers must be put to bed. Shrubs and bushes trimmed. Sprinkler lines blown out.
A funny thing happened at my house on the way to winterizing last week. The nice young man who mows my lawn came every Thursday this year. He did a fine job. I am also on an automatic lawn fertilizing plan. I think the two happened on the same day this year. I never thought to let my lawn fertilizing company know when my mower mows. I wonder why I have to learn the hard way?
Periodically this Fall, I’ve been starting my snowblower to make sure it is going to run properly. So far, so good. This last time I kept trying to start it and thought maybe it sat too long and something was wrong. I started to panic, thinking of the mounds of snow that could be coming. The rabbit was running, the choke was choking, the electric plug was plugged in, BUT a more careful examination revealed that the key should be put into the slot. Oops. It was still taped to the hand grip. Some of us are mechanically challenged, but God watches over us. Good grief.
By golly! As soon as I put that key in – VAROOMMMMMMMMM!
However, I must stop short at shouting, “bring on the snow!” NO! STOP!
“Because You have been my help, therefore in the shadow of your wings I will rejoice” Psalm 63:7.
