Last week I talked about the never ending chore list. Ok, that’s a given. When you are an adult, you are stuck with this chore list. Once that is settled in your mind, then choices can be made.
Recently my daughter and son in law visited me. They surprised me with my Christmas gift a little early. They caught me admiring a beautiful mounted, framed photo in a gallery. Pine trees, lightly dusted with snow and shrouded in fog is the background for a majestic bald eagle. The eagle also has a slight dust of snow on him and his wings are in the down flight position. It struck me because most photos and artwork of eagles show their wingspan. I don’t think I have seen one like this.
I love this picture. It is an unusual winter scene and the eagle still flies.
The eagle is not worried about his chores. He is flying—even in winter! Whatever his cares are, he is flying.
Our Father wants us to be free to fly, too. He invites us to drop our cares upon Him and go free.
No need to feel guilty about chores, those will be there when we come back. However, the screaming voice of the chores can be silenced when we make the choice to let our Father God handle our cares for us. He knows things need to be done, but He also made it necessary for us to rest and recharge.
Therein lay the rub. Can we trust our Father to take care of our lives enough to rest, play and recharge when we need to do so?
I’m certainly not there. But that’s my goal. Learn to rest, play and fly as I trust my Father God to take care of my life. How about you?
“For I, the Lord your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you, Fear not, I will help you” Isaiah 41:13.
