Does God forget us? Are His eyes turned somewhere else that He can’t see our suffering? I believe we think so at times. There is no lack of circumstances to cause us stress. We worry about everything and then our bodies tend to get sick and our minds and emotions depress.
This is no way to live!
I am reminded of Hagar in the Old Testament. I wrote about her in my book, but sometimes I need a reminder. She escaped from Sarah, her mistress, under duress and mistreatment. Only she had nowhere to go but the desert. With the sun hurting her eyes as far as she tried to see, and the sand clinging to her skin, her desperation increased. I think her tongue was probably clinging to the roof of her mouth, as well.
She cried out to God, thinking He didn’t see her. But He did. He provided a spring for water. He spoke comfort to her spirit. Then He told her what her future would be if she walked in His instructions and sent her back to serve her mistress with His assurance that He saw her and would go with her.
There was a time when God met me on this issue of His seeing me. After an intense struggle with God’s attention (or lack of, in my opinion), He met me in my overall picture. I have known since that day, He really DOES see me.
But life goes on. Circumstances change, morph, and become new challenges. The temptation is always to cry out, “God! Don’t you see me? How am I supposed to deal with this?” Or, maybe there is no cry, but illness invades a body that is stewing and worrying about the issues that just can’t be solved right now. Or maybe ever.
Rest assured, God sees you. He sees you every day. He sees your coming in and your going out. He is intimately involved in your thought processes and in the details of your every day living. God sees us. And He promises to never leave us nor forsake us. Ever.
This is God, whom we call Abba, Daddy. He is worthy of our praise.
“For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you’” Hebrews 13:5a.
