Oh boy! The first real winter storm of the season hit us last night. It only left a skiff of snow, but the morning sun was deceiving as we drove out onto icy roads.
Actually the roads didn’t look too bad and I was on my way to church when I rounded a corner on the hill. Uh oh. I hit ice and my car was instantly out of control. The road dropped on one side and the other lane wasn’t mine, but I took it anyway. After a couple of not-so-fun curls my auto slowed down enough so I got control again. Thank God there were no vehicles coming in either direction until all activity straightened out.
I felt so stupid. I know that after a storm there can be ice, but I wasn’t paying attention. Wow! After the heart rate was back to normal I began to think about life being out of control. We live each day, just like the day before. We don’t expect the changes that are around—yup—that bend in the road and we are unprepared. The next thing we know, life is taking us on a ride we don’t want to be on—at work, at home, with our family and friend relationships. Yikes!
Life or death can happen in seconds, but we drive on thinking about all of our plans until we hit a patch of ice and start twirling around.
This misadventure made me remember Who is in control—really. It isn’t me. All my plans could have been over today. But God isn’t finished with me. His plans are still viable for the life I have yet to live. And when His plans are accomplished, then it will be time for me to go.
Praise and Honor and Glory and Blessing be to our God, Who alone holds all things in His Hands. His plans will be. His plans are good to develop our characters to reflect His Character. He is God.
“But whoever keeps His Word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we knowthat we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked” I John 2:5,6.
