Free falling in the dark! Down, down, down. Where is the bottom? Along the shaft are some luminescent indicators. The indicators are the only light. The lights should be comforting, but they aren’t. They only say the fall is deeper and deeper.
Is there a scream? Maybe only inside the mind. The silence is terrifiying. There is no one else and the falling continues. Where will it end? Or will it end?
“Forgive meeeee…” the cry rushes upward, corresponding with the speed of descent. It’s too late. Too late. Too late.
Aloneness and separation lay ahead. If the falling ever stops.
If only the cry had been heeded in life:
“For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ … that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height—to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.” Ephesians 3: 14-21.
