How often do we face losing loved ones and friends in death? It’s a sure thing, after all.
There are songs galore written about this ole earth and shaking off this mortal coil. That’s fine to sing those songs—until we really are facing the sin of the earth and leaving it. The sin is tearing up lives in more and more savage ways. No wonder we want to leave it.
Yet—while we may read about what’s on the other side, we may agree it’s there, but to actually shake off this mortal coil and go there—that’s another issue.
Bible Study Fellowship has been studying Revelation this year. It’s been a wonderful—well—revelation! Here is what the Throne room of God is like:
- One is sitting on the Throne
- His appearance is like precious stones
- A rainbow surrounds Him on the Throne
- When He speaks, it’s like thunder
- Lightnings flash
- Lamps burn before the Throne
- Living Creatures fly around the Throne to serve and chant, “holy holy holy!”
- Elders, in white robes and golden crowns, fall down to worship the One on the Throne whenever the Living Creatures cry out “Holy!”
- A crystal sea is also before the throne. Traditionally imaged as many faces. Could that be us?
Today we celebrate Palm Sunday, the day Jesus rode triumphantly on a donkey into Jerusalem. People fanned Him in worship with palm fronds; all crying, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord! Hosanna! The King of Israel!”
Next came the week of testing, ending in Jesus’ Crucifixion, when He took on our sins to pay our punishment. Then He rose from the dead to give us eternal life. That means FOREVER!!
We sang “The Revelation Song” in church this morning. My mind went instantly to this scene in heaven at the Throne room. I could see some holes in the crystal sea. And I could see as, one by one, the holes filled and the surface became smooth.
Since God wants none to perish (and neither do we!), I wonder if He is waiting for all His children to leave earth; then watching as each one quietly slips into place in the crystal sea of worship before His Throne? When the sea is completely smooth with no holes remaining, the end of time comes.
“Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty. Who was and is and is to come!” Rev 4:8b.
