To Contemplate
How often do we take the time to contemplate mystery?
I think, most of the time, we are in a hurry. We just want to get answers so we can move on.
Last weekend, I went on a retreat. I got up early enough to see the sun come over the hills and caress the shadows across the lake. The gorgeous gold, mauve and blue skies spoke of new beginnings and beauty and mystery.
I wanted to linger over the mystery. It’s ok not to know. Mystery adds something beautiful to life. Mystery is to be savored. Maybe it speaks of the unattainable. Or perhaps it contains promises and if we just reach out, maybe those promises can become reality.
Our Father’s mercies are new every morning. Yesterday, and its mistakes, is gone and a fresh day beckons. How will God move in this new day? How will He grow me into His Spirit in this new day? How can I serve Him in this new day? How can I be helpful to others in this new day?
It’s better than a do-over. It’s a NEW DAY!
The Depths
As I watched the current gently ripple from where the gold stretched across the water, I wondered about the unfathomable depths of God. He is eternal, holy…other.
He is unknowable from a human perspective. His depths are greater than we can ever plumb, even if we have eternity to try. And we do.
His plan guides all things. Human history is moving toward a culmination that He ordained from the beginning. What looks like chaos to us has an order to it that will be revealed at the right time.
The Hope
Watching the sun, I thought about this great and wonderful thing: The eternal, holy, unfathomable God knows each one of us inside out. He loves us. He made a way through His Son Jesus to come to Him and live forever.
One thing our speaker said was, “There is no expiration date on our prayers.” We know this, but saying it this particular way bolstered my hope for beloved ones not yet in the Kingdom. For those that my prayers have followed for years.
I saw hope in that new day dawning. Fresh beginnings. New mercies. For us and our loved ones.
Every day is a gift from God that starts with beauty and His tender love for us.
“Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion’ says my soul, therefore I hope in Him” Lamentations 3:22-24.

What a splendid photo and meditation! You stir me to still my soul and whisper yes to Mystery today. Thank you!
That early morning sunrise was so beautiful. Quiet, holy. I had to share it. Thank you, Laurie, for your comment.
