Guilt
The plague. Wouldn’t you agree?
Guilt lays a load across your back. You walk bent over because it is so heavy.
Your mind buzzes like a beehive.
No two thoughts appear to correlate.
What to do?
How to fix it?
King David’s Guilt
I knew about Bathsheba. Just a note to say I don’t blame her. I think she was had—in all ways. However, King David knew what he was doing. He lusted, he bedded his victim, he killed her husband (another victim) to cover up. And thought he got away with it.
God knew. He always does, doesn’t He?
But guilt caught up with King David. When Nathan, the prophet, rounded on him with outstretched arm and a finger pointed to say, “You are the man!” King David dropped to the floor, his kingly head bowed before the God he’d wronged.
His guilt bowed him low.
Restoration
This is the thing. King David repented, and God forgave him. The love they shared was too great to break.
It didn’t stop the agonies of consequences, which were felt for generations. Still, God forgave and took King David back into fellowship with Him.
He does that for us, too. We may still need to apologize, make reparations, and feel the pain of consequences, but in the long term, God is for us.
That’s the fix. To drop to our knees in repentance and accept His forgiveness.
Then make it right.
God is FOR us.
