Wow. Tough decisions. Who wants to make them?
It’s hard to struggle through the process of making a determination that you know is going to hurt people, make them angry or have repercussions. I know I’d rather go anywhere else but to the place of making that kind of decision.
First comes the dragging of the feet, literally as well as figuratively. Then the stalling. But you know it must be done in order to move forward in any direction. Then you feel like ducking the fallout even if you are absolutely positive that you have looked at the situation from all angles and made the best choice possible.
After that it’s hard to stop second guessing the decision, especially when the reactions of others come at us—or maybe just our own doubts. Can we go back and change it? Fix it? Is it even broken? Or will it be worse and merely confuse those involved?
It doesn’t help to think we live in a fallen world where nothing is perfect. Particularly when the “fallen-ness” falls into your lap. Personalities clash, things get broken right along with relationships. These things can’t be helped, this is our world. I keep hearing how relationships are messy. I just don’t like living in the messiness.
This is why Jesus came to the Cross to rescue us. It’s why we must look up continually for Him to come to us in our every need, every day. We are made to depend upon Him. We are made to trust Him for the outcome of every judgment for every person. Someday, in Him, we will live in a perfect world where the only decisions will be feel good ones. But for now, we stand fast in the Shadow of His Wing and wait for Him to act for us. Only He can make all things new.
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might” Eph 6:10.
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust” Psalm 91:1,2.
