Things have changed a lot. The torch has passed. Now what?
At this time of year, we grow nostalgic and patriotic. We celebrate a fine history in our country. We stood for freedom, a fine tradition of respect and caring for one another even to giving our lives to protect the freedoms and the lives of our families, the citizens of our country.
Outstanding people fought for freedom to “bring forth a new nation.” A nation that believed in its citizens whose Creator endowed them with inalienable rights. Rights to respect one another; to build society; create new inventions freely and then to buy and sell them.
Later, came more war – this time to make another group of people free. And we struggled. And still more wars, and the nation expanded with more struggle. World Wars drew us into conflict—and we went. And we freed an oppressed people through terrible discoveries. Can anything come easy?
And now we are in another time of conflict and change. We watch from the spiritual walls. We are learning to guard our hearts as we guard our flag. Tradition is passing away with the coming of a new society and we stand guard over Truth as well.
We celebrate a fine history. The 4th of July fireworks have been oohed and awed over for another year.
Now we put the future in the capable hands of God.
Come to think of it, has our timeline ever been in anyone else’s hands?
Only in the hands of God are we able to move forward to our destiny.
With confidence.
“ ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ So we may boldly say: ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?’ “ Hebrews 13:5b-6.

There are no hands but God’s when it comes to the future. We would all do well to remember that. No human being has the ability to see into the future, much less shape it, and guide one another through it. This country has been so blessed and privileged to have God watching over her! May we not lose sight of His law and love! May we not lose our compassion for the oppressed!
