Mt. St. Helens
Expect Great Things
William Carey said something very profound. I have included this quote in my goal list every year.
Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God.
It’s a faith thing.
God tells us in the Scriptures to do that very thing: to trust Him for the unknown, to wait on Him for results and expect Him to come through for us.
And He does. Always.
Maybe we aren’t completely happy if He doesn’t do what we desire, but His outcomes are for our good. The long term proves it true.
It takes faith.
Attempt Great Things
What does it mean to attempt great things for God?
We can make attempts all we want, but it is true that nothing is enduring unless we allow God to work through us. It takes our desire to lay all things before Him.
I want to glorify God in all I do.
I think most of us do.
Another Side of Doing Great Things
A quote from Simon Chao revealed that he asked God to keep him from seeking to do great things for God because he wanted to be a man after God’s own heart.
This left me in a dilemma. Couldn’t both be true at the same time? Of course, I want to be a woman after God’s own heart. Most of us want this, too.
Perhaps both ideas are the same.
We do great things for God because He enables us to do them and His will is fulfilled.
We are after God’s own heart because we are His children, created in His image to do great things.
Results of Great Things
The long and short of it is that God is in control. What a relief!
Yes, I can expect great things from God. Yes, I can attempt great things for God. Yes, I can be a woman after God’s own heart.
And all at the same time.
God gets the glory.
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for god works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10 NKJV).
