Mischievous Toby
Furry Living
This has been my life lately: a new kitten who wants to play. An old lady spitty kitty who does NOT want him around. And a sweet old guy kitty who has made friends with both. The latter is my delight, for sure.
To referee has new meaning. Quiet moments are scarce these days. I’m sure that will improve, but for now uproar is a good description of my household. The kitten got his own room. How about that?
But then, he needs it. He recently had a surgery. Yep. You might guess that was coming. I thought things would calm down, but not yet. Recovery is happening and he has to be monitored. So do the other kitties. Sigh.
This, too, shall pass.
Calm Influence
I’ve noticed something peculiar.
I have discovered that when the Scriptures are read aloud, it seems to calm the spirits of the animals as well as my own. It might be the sound of my voice that does it, but the way I see it, God is moving through troubled waters. Why shouldn’t God’s words be a calm influence in the souls of our animals as well as our own? He made us all.
Reading aloud. There is something soothing about listening to a story. Better if it is the Scriptures. To sit and let the Word of God flow over you like a fresh breeze.
Hear the Word
We are told that hearing comes by the Word of God. As we listen, His Word gets into our souls and spirits.
Who doesn’t need the calm of God’s Holy Spirit these days? Life seems to be fraught with all kinds of dangers, personal and otherwise.
In listening to God’s Word we find:
Refreshment
Love
Grace
Peace
And God promises much more to us than we can imagine. It’s all there in the Scriptures. Wouldn’t it be great to start reading aloud to one another?
“But whoever listens to me will dwell safely, and will be secure without fear of evil” (Proverbs 1:33 NKJV).
