Trying New Things
David got his first shot at being a football referee for kids. He was nervous. It took some courage to get out there on the field with that first time authority. What if he made a wrong call? Would the sky fall?
But no. We prayed for David with confidence, knowing that God would answer our prayers for him. David refereed several games and made good calls. He gained assurance as he went through each game and the end of the day brought success.
David stepped out into the unknown, for him, and went for it. What great opportunities will be opening up for him, now.
Lost and Found
Trevor lost his football helmet. This was a major tragedy. He couldn’t play middle school football without the helmet. What could be done?
All the practical solutions were tried – his family looked everywhere. But, it was a weekend and that helmet was nowhere to be found at home. Was there panic? Well, yes, a fair amount.
But God knew where that helmet was. So, we prayed. We prayed with confidence, knowing God knew not only where the helmet was, but that it would be returned.
Monday rolled around and yes, it had been on the school bus all weekend and Trevor got to play in the next game. God came through!
God is Faithful
Whether trusting God for a lost helmet, or stepping out into the unknown, we can know He will always come through for us. He is for us. He is for our success. He has a plan to love us and give us good gifts because He is our Father.
Jesus said that as we are fathers (parents) who want to give our children good gifts, how much more does our Father in heaven love us, His children, and want to give us good gifts.
So, we hold out our empty hands, because we really have nothing to offer unless our Heavenly Father fills them. We trust Him to find a lost helmet. We trust Him to infuse us with courage to do something new and untried (by us). And then, we can offer our praise.
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights…” James 1:17.

This morning’s Sunday School lesson was about Gideon. In the process of studying his character, we learned that we must separate the healthy fear that puts us on the alert…ready for what God purposes us to do, and the unhealthy fear…the fear that paralyzes us, and keeps us from trusting that God will prepare us and see us through what He has called us to do. I’m glad that your grandsons are learning to have faith that God will provide what they need when they need it!
