Goals and Resolutions
Another year has ended and another year is beginning. Usually I write about goals and resolutions—with goals being helpful in moving forward and resolutions being a waste of time since nobody sticks to those after the first couple of weeks in January anyway.
This year, as I talk with people, it seems that going through “stuff” and trying to reorder life by simplifying seems to be the hot topic. I know it is with me. I’ve been trying to clear out my garage for years. Maybe this is the year…!
Old Tapes
I started with old tapes. Yep, that’s the word. VHS movie tapes. Wow. So far, I cleared out half a box. Most have been replaced by DVDs by now. Some were only worthy of the ash heap. Others I got stuck watching.
How can you just toss out old family VHS tapes? One showed my long gone kitty, Kara, in her kitten days, chasing and being chased by my long departed husband and teenage daughter who now has teenagers of her own. Old Clyde, another kitty, was in this tape, too. I miss them all.
Another tape had recorded several of my daughter’s high school gymnastics meets and my son’s high school basketball games. Even the cheering section comments on the films, very serious about the performances and the scores, were pretty funny from this vantage of time.
Ok, lightening up is a really good thing to do. But, as the TV ads proclaim, some things are “priceless”!
Remembrance
I did do my goals for this next year. And I could see where I had moved forward from last year’s goals. But I can have tunnel vision and miss those things outside my goals.
So, on this day at the beginning of the New Year, as snow is falling again outside the window, I am taking some time to remember those priceless things. How about you?
“Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His face evermore! Remember His marvelous works which He has done, His wonders and the judgments of His mouth” I Chronicles 16:11,12.
