Carried by the Britches
A friend of mine moaned that she felt so far behind. Who of us doesn’t feel that way sometimes? I felt her pain.
At the same time, I started giggling because I got this funny picture in my head. Here we are, lagging behind. We can see the backsides of those in front of us disappearing around a bend. But where are they going in such a hurry?
We feel like lagging more than ever.
Then a giant hand comes up behind us, grabs us by the britches, and suddenly we are soaring along, smiling as we pass the runners that are now behind us.
Running the Race
Funnies aside, running the race set before us is a tough business. Obstacles constantly appear. Rifts in relationships, overwhelming tasks, physical detriments, and all other manner of things discourage us in our daily run.
We don’t have a choice. We will run our race.
We do have a choice on how we run it.
Gratitude
Eat up. Drink up. Fuel up for the race.
Encouragement is available at every signpost along the way. The words off the pages of the Bible, tell us our races are worth it.
That unseen hand grasping our backsides is the hand of God. He dashes right alongside of us in our races. (Another word picture – like a Dad holding onto the seat of the bicycle when we are first learning to ride). He has promised never to leave us nor forsake us. He provides everything we need to keep going forward. And He holds us up as we go.
Running alongside others. I am amazed as I watch those around me. Even as they face dire circumstances, they set their faces toward those goals and prizes. Faith is another running companion. Just as Apostle Paul tells us to do. They do it with gratitude.
God is with us.
Grace for the Race
Grace is abundant. With every hitch or fall, God applies His grace.
Never fear. The way is clear.
Forward.
Love that photo!
And this: “with every hitch or fall . . . grace”
I needed that thought today. Thank you!
Bless you, Laurie. Grace is surely a daily need, eh? I love that photo, too.
