So, is anybody tired of goal and resolutions talk yet? I promise, this will be the last one from me—this year. We will start all over again same time, same place, in 2016, Lord willing. Aren’t you glad?
Recently, I was part of a discussion concerning, “is it possible to change?”
A few years ago, my Scribette (writer group) leader asked us to pick a word for the coming year. Not just any word, but the one that would be God-given. The first word was PERSEVERANCE. I needed that word. I start things, and it’s a real challenge to persevere to the end. Then, once it’s finished, persevere to do something with the finished project.
The next year was BE INTENTIONAL. You know how you always have this huge list and by the end of January, you’ve slipped into reruns of life as you’ve always known it? Maybe some of that is because it’s hard to change. It’s hard to find those things we can persevere to finish, and perhaps there are only a few—not a long list. The long list gets discouraging. Then, we are always seeking to change what we don’t like. We never really achieve perfection (is that possible?) and we are never satisfied with ourselves in the process. Therefore, in order to change how I go about achieving the New Year plan, I must BE INTENTIONAL.
Yes, I am tired of the reruns. It’s time to move ahead.
This year, my word is BREATHE. It’s ok to slow down. It’s ok to take time. It’s not time that is wasted. Time that is planned for standing still to ponder, appreciate beauty and life around me, a good book, sitting in the sunshine (when it arrives) and watching butterflies vie for airspace, is never wasted.
If my projects don’t hurry along and fit the marketing vibes, it’s ok. I can BREATHE and just allow God to take me and my projects where and when He wants them to go.
No more reruns. BREATHE.
“He restores my soul,” Psalm 23:3.
