Do you hate changing passwords as much as I do?
Nearly every time I change my passwords, it messes up everything else I am doing! One program connects in with another, and if one password is changed, then they all have to be changed. Oh. My. Gosh.
Recently, during that heart whatever virus it was, I made the effort to change my passwords. And my Outlook program at home just quit. I’m surprised I had hair to dry this morning. So, I checked with the online email service, and yep, it worked. But I couldn’t get into another program that it connected to.
And my Outlook was still stuck.
I called my friend Greg to come bail me out. We worked on a few other things to bring my computer up to speed. And online email was working, but Outlook was still stuck.
After a few more machinations, Greg finally cried, “you’ve been hacked!”
Oh no! Could any worse words come to my ears? How could I be hacked? I’m so careful. And who would hack me? I don’t have any valuables to hack! I’m just a Jane Doe!
We decided to change my password again and start over. So, I got my list so I could record the new password. As I looked at my list, I froze. I didn’t want to tell Greg we were working with the wrong password. I was my own hacker!
I had to tell him. He sat stunned, and then we proceeded with changing to the newest password. You’d think the problem would be fixed, right? Nope. Outlook was still stuck. What else? We looked online for instructions, and it said to hit the send/receive tab and release Outlook from there. We thought we had done that.
But…AH! There is a send/receive BUTTON and a send/receive TAB. The BUTTON doesn’t do squat. However, the TAB will release Outlook from jail. YAY! I’m back in business!!!!!! Thank you, Greg.
I still hate changing passwords. To all you hackers out there: STOP IT!
If there is a spiritual component to this – it MUST be that patience is the virtue that Scripture claims it is!
