Foundation of Old Post Falls Idaho Dam
“What is Truth?” Asked Pontius Pilate of Jesus.
It must have been a hot day and all the pavement in the public square, right along with all the bodies of the crowd, must have bounced the heat off the walls. I imagine Pilate wiping his forehead and throwing the towel down.
From all accounts, he did not want to deal with this affair at all. But with Rome breathing down his neck and the locals screaming below in the square had him in crosshairs. Ha! Crosshairs.
I always wondered how Pilate could even ask the question when Truth stood before him. I couldn’t understand why he didn’t know. Yet, the known world at the time had no truth other than what they wanted it to be. Real Truth escaped their senses.
It’s the same these days. I think I now understand how someone asks, “What is Truth?” They really don’t know. We are taught these days that truth is whatever we want it to be. Ultimately, of course, this works out to be no truth. Lies become standard.
But, the next dilemma is: how can there be lies of there is no truth? It takes truth to point out the wrong of lies. But if truth is not acknowledged, then how can lies be so? Everyone does what is right in their own eyes. Truth becomes relative.
As a nation, we once had a standard to live by—truth to keep our freedom real. We lived by the standard and if someone punched your nose, justice was swift. Now the nose punch is debatable and if justice is meted out, the one with the punched nose pays the puncher. This is convoluted.
We still need foundations that will stand the test of time. In the above photo, the foundation still stands even though the dam has been rebuilt in another location. Our society may change, but we need our foundation to stand.
So, all I can say now, is if you believe truth is relative and the only standard is what you want, then be careful not to jump off the foundation. Truth might surprise you!
“Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation. A tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation” Isaiah 28:16.
