I guess I just can’t get away from the history and freedom of this country. Not that I want to. What a grand place to live!
I totally agree that the Pacific Northwest is God’s Country. Everything is here. Mountains, the ocean, great rivers, trees, wildlife and even the desert. It’s wonderful that you can drive from one end of the state to the other and see such a change in the land.
Last weekend, I went kayaking and canoeing with some of my family members. The first day, we paddled around in the mighty Columbia River. My sister and brother in law reminded me that they were carrying on the tradition of Lewis and Clark. They packed around lunch in their canoe. My other sister and I didn’t have that much room in our kayaks. Well … so?
What it did make me think of was the intrepid spirit of those who came before us. At times, it was rough paddling due to the wind and big waves. What if it were raining and I carried all my gear aboard my boat and I had no idea where I was? What if my loaded boat got swamped and dumped all my supplies? That might have been the dilemma of those revered explorers. Yet, they persevered and made it possible to birth a great nation from coast to coast.
And what about our amazing Native American brothers and sisters who hunted and fished and did their own canoeing in this bountiful land? They, too, built a nation and their mysterious presence still fills the land they cared for so diligently.
The eagle—so magnificently soaring above us. How fitting! The symbol of the nation.
None of this would have been possible without the guiding hand of the Creator who is always moving His creation forward to complete His Story. We all have a place in His plan, whatever the century, wherever we live and move and have our beings.
May His Name be praised.
“For in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring’” Acts 17:28.
