Boy, does it take a LOT of time, effort and patience to recover from the theft of your belongings!
I lost a day from work to take care of business after robbers paid me a house call. After the police reports, the insurance lists, figuring out how and if to replace things (some irreplaceable things, and maybe the crooks will come back!), putting security in the house, watching CraigsList, doing the leg work to pawn shops in the area, checking with the banks, gutting my online email account—did I miss anything? Are you tired yet?
Chasing horses is hard work! You know—the old saying about shutting the gate after the horses have escaped the corral. I advise everyone to NOT be robbed! It’s way too much work! It got so ridiculous that I needed an outlet. I wrote a note and put it on the top of the empty jewelry armoire:
“Too bad! The crooks before you got it all!”
The note in the first drawer has some suggestions in it: like taking my TV. That would have really done me a favor. It’s so big and heavy it takes three guys to lift it. Or—to please wait while the siren summons the police. Actually, I really do hope no other crook sees these suggestions!
One friend told me I should take in my kitty for barking lessons. Ha! That’s a good one. Kitty would rather hide and so would I.
I have determined that this experience and these losses will not define my life. I will trust my God to make all right in His will. Some things can only be left with Him. I’ve done all I can and the rest is in His hands. God is God. I don’t understand why He allowed this theft, but somehow it will fit into the great scheme of His Kingdom on earth.
Who will benefit? I don’t know. But I do know that God can work on the hearts of thieves as well as their hits.
“And we know that all things work to the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose” Romans 8:28.
