Phew! This is a good one!
I’ll bet most of us are leaders in some sphere of our lives. Sometimes an event or project we’ve led turns out well and we think we have leadership nailed. Then the next thing we know—wham! We are on our backs looking up at the sky and wondering how we got here.
Jesus showed us how to lead as a Servant. You know where that got Him! Sometimes that is where we go as leaders. Our hearts are to serve those in our sphere of influence, but each person is so different with their time, talents and expectations. How do you care for each one? It’s hard to try to lead and serve your people at the same time. I wonder how pastors do this? I wonder if we, the sheep, support them well?
I have found that even annual projects take on a life of their own. Sometimes I have thought that I know how to do a project, who to ask for help, how to instruct them, only to find that the familiar venture has taken on a new life and—yep—it’s the tiger by the tail syndrome. I don’t know where I’m going next with this undertaking and others look to me to make decisions that I can’t make. Why not? I made them last year and it worked just fine. But it’s different this time!
Even with all the great seminars out there on leadership, the truth is that it just can’t be done without God upholding us in it. So, leaders, are you on your knees before Him asking His help, guidance, and direction? Not a day goes by that we don’t need our Lord by our side.
Leadership is a prayer thing first and foremost.
“But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life” Jude 20,21.
