Today is Father’s Day and it’s been a big family weekend. It started with my birthday. I was born on Father’s Day a lot of years ago, I won’t say how many. We, as a people, do not ask a lady’s age. Good thing. Because this was a milestone birthday and introspection on “what will I do with the rest of my life?” can become a big issue. For me, even though age looms, this question is settled. I will do with the rest of my life what God calls me to do. End of discussion.
At the other end of the spectrum, we celebrated my grandniece’s 2nd birthday. She is just starting out. What a different perspective I have of her from this side of life. She’s a delightful little urchin. And, since it was Father’s Day, too, I watched my nephew tenderly care for her on this combined celebration day. In these times of uncertainties, may she always count on her father’s love as she does today.
My children and all nine grandsons came for the weekend. These growing boys, in all stages of childhood, are a joy. Of course they wear me out. But what a privilege to love them, pray for them and interact with them. I watch my son as he teaches, plays with his boys, and corrects them. All with their good in mind. I pray that all my grandsons should grow up in the admonition of the Lord and become Men of God, walking with Him all the days of their lives.
We celebrated the completed life of my Stepdad this weekend, too. It was a memorial where we heard how his life so impacted the lives of many. His faith in Jesus and the example he was still encourages the faith of those whose earthly roads yet stretch in front of them. My Mom, his beloved wife, gave testimony to his last joyful moments before He left us for heaven with grace and her own faith.
Later in the day, the family surprised me with a birthday party. Balloons, cards, gifts, and chocolate cake! Yum! Bless them all.
What a loving Father watches over us. Even through the rainclouds, He sends his ray of sunshine to remind us of His love and care in every circumstance. He is THE Father model. His sweet consideration remains with us through every day and every occasion. Blessed be His Name.
