When the rug is pulled out from under you, what happens? Your feet fly up and your bottom lands on a hard surface. It’s jarring and you feel out of sorts.
When unexpected and disappointing things happen, it takes a while to get your footing back. But don’t give up. A few days may pass before life settles into a “new normal.”
It’s been that kind of a weekend. A time to grieve; then a time to rest. At the end of the day, God gives a gift—a stillness. Perhaps this was the time set aside when God met with Adam, the “cool of the day,” the Bible calls it. It’s also known as the gloaming. A special time when the afternoon is cooling into evening just before dusk falls. A hush comes over nature.
Maybe this was when it was quiet and Adam could hear God’s Voice asking him how his day had gone and they sat together to share a companionable discussion.
I hear the birds sing. I see the last blaze of the sun through the trees. I see the green lawns, flowers, and shrubbery sharply backlit by the sun’s rays. It’s restful. It feels like Abba Daddy’s calm Presence reassuring me that just because I took a tumble, life need not stall. I can still move forward. He still has a plan and it will be accomplished in my life—and in yours.
God is still good, all the time, no matter what.
“Truly my soul silently waits for God; from Him comes my salvation. He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved” Psalm 62: 1,2.
